I'd be more surprised if he stayed than if he goes.

Bye, Jay. Shrimpers back in again, you reckon? Losing his wages will free up funds if he goes, I suppose.

Jay Simpson hands in transfer request

PostPosted by jamie9456 » Sat Dec 31, 2016 3:14 pm

Think it was coming. Thanks for your service Jay, you were brilliant last year and always put your head down and got on with things. In a strange way, it's now vital we get him out the door as soon as possible and free up funds for a replacement. Vital month coming up

In the boxing day programme it said that his next game would be his 100th. Some sort of bonus clause for 100 games?

Got the hump after being benched by Edwards last week. Sooner he's gone the better.

That was coming after the way Becchetti treated him at the start of the season. Replacements will be critical given it seems we've lost a few to injury today.

Not bothered really, hopefully the fee will still be an OK one, he's been crap this season but it's not surprising considering the way he was treated at the start of the season.

Apart from a 3 or 4 month spell last year when Hendon was in charge he has never appeared happy here. Vastly overrated imho.

He's still a very good striker for this level but just hasn't done it this season except at Col U where he was brilliant.

No doubt we do need a replacement in though and I hope AE is given the funds. Any names that stick out to replace?

Sympathise with him, been badly treated by the club, all for the crime of having a contract that the club agreed in the first place!
For the best part of two years he has been surrounded by absolute dross, being selected behind Bowery, Palmer and a kid must be a bit of an insult for a guy that only a few months before would have gotten into every team in the division.

Don't think we'll be seeking a fee, but I wonder if there has been interest which came before the request. Charlton are in enough trouble to pay his demands, I reckon he could be off there.

I still think he is a quality striker and will be a star again somewhere. Sadly, all the baggage of our ridiculous past couple of years will probably prevent him from ever again being hungry for success here. It may be that Edwards considers Jay has demonstrated a lack of energy/team spirit and knows the rest of the group will also know it.

I sincerely hope not. That would likely mean Becchetti is influencing team selection for reasons other than winning games.

Yeah, I agree.
Don't necessarily think it's a bad call, and with Coxy gone now we won't have one player on massively bigger wages than the rest.

Obviously we will need a replacement, and Simpson needs to go quickly and not hang around like Dunne.
