Your favourite buses

PostPosted by GlynroadO » Mon Aug 18, 2014 8:21 pm

As young boy my favourite bus was the 208, an old fashion single decker which run from Stratford to Clapton Pond. Sadly it was replaced by the S2, however this modern SD died out.

My second favourite bus was the routemaster 22 that run from Clapton to Putney. Sadly they spilt the route with modern DD 22A from Clapton to the west end , then from there the RM 22 to Putney.

I cannot tell you about I ill I felt when the RM38 became a bendy bus

I miss the 97A, which used to run from Whipps Cross to Chingford Station via the Hatch. Now replaced by the 357, which just doesn't have the same ring to it.

Talking about a ring to it, the old buses use have a long wire on the roof, which you pulled ?twice for a request stop

What first grabbed me about Orient was the fact that the ground is in Leyton, a destination which was not only mentioned on Grandstand, but could also be observed on the front of the 97 (going to Downsell Road, not Stratford City as it does now). That played a large part in me supporting Orient over Spurs.

Yes, but I thought it was one pull to get the bus to stop, and the conductor did a double pull/ding when it was ready to move off?

The 169 and it's variants were my main bus used Lovely old RT types mostly back in the day (but RM on 169A). Also loved the 25 for Up London travel as a kid, and the EN 251 for trips to Sarfend.

Me and another old fool were reminiscing about the 236 single decker that went across Hackney marshes yesterday.

I've done post buses in the far north of Scotland. You sit in the back of a transit whilst the postman does his deliveries.

I hate the new Routemasters. Seems like a gross waste of money.
