New Laws?

Interesting new proposals being made.
2 halves of 30 minutes with the watch being stopped every time ball goes out of play.
Over 45 minutes they say ball is actually in play for only 25 to 30 minutes.
New proposals designed to stop time wasting.

If a penalty is saved the ball is dead and a goal kick awarded. Agree with this change.

If the ball is only in play for 25-30 minutes during a 45-minute half, how long would it be in play for during a 30-minute half? 15-20 minutes?

30 minutes, because like ice hockey when the play is dead the clock is stopped...

I personally would rather FIFA spent their time tackling:

1. corruption in the game
2. simulation of injuries or fouls

before looking at this gimmick. How is it going to work on Hackney Marshes where there is no external timekeeper or stadium clock?

There are already rules against time wasting enforce/enhance those if you think it's a problem

I have been talking about this for years.

I wrote to FA about 5 years ago suggesting this. I gave 2 ideas. Firstly as suggested 30 minutes of open play each half. My other thought was to have a 45 minute 1st half with injury time as now - The second half would be as long as necessary to complete the 60 minutes of ball in play. The reply was just a thank you for your ideas, currently no intention of change.

I will be delighted if this happens. Players will slow the play down when they have the ball, but no other time wasting tactics come into play. Won't that be fantastic.

The A-B-B-A penalty kick sequence makes sense. Currently the team that takes the first spot kick has a 62% chance of winning a shootout..

The sort of law change i would like to see is two teams up automatically from the National league to League Two. Plus a third team up via Wembley play offs. Unfortunately ,I know this isn't going to happen.

That is nothing to do with the laws of the game.

That is a rule for promotion between divisions decided upon by the respective leagues, not by FIFA

Regarding the penalty, instead of linning up around the penalty area send the players to the halfway line, just like in the shoot-outs, only do not make the ball dead, that would stop encroachments and would just keep it down to between taker and keeper and neither of them can touch the ball again untill another player does except if the taker misses completely and the ball goes out for a goalkick or keeper saves and goes for a corner..

I can see exctly where this is going, once the clock is off the officials will take more time for dealing with injuries, bookings etc allowing the TV companies to whack in the adverts. This is what happened to baseball, at the change of innings everyone is ready to play but just stand around waiting for the ads to finish, thus making a boring game even more tedious for the spectator.

So its not just me who is cycical?

It will be like American Football where a 60 minute game lasts 3 hours plus

not only more money from adverts on TV, but more time to sell food/ drink etc to those in the ground
